TYPES OF COLORING

The types of Hair Color
TEMPORARY.....color last for one to two shampoos and is deposited on the outside of the hair shaft.
SEMI-TEMPORARAY.....color will last up to 4 to 6 shampoos, a stronger deposit on the outside shaft of the hair.
SEMI-PERMANENT.....color is for masking light or gray hair and last 2 to 6 weeks depending on hair care products used.
PERMANENT.....color formulas change the natural hair color from within the hair shaft. they require maintenance to the new hair growth after 4 to 6 weeks.
HOW COLOR WORKS.....before any permanent color can be deposited into the hair shaft, the cuticle, or outer layer must be opened. the formula then reacts with the cortex, or middle layer, to deposit or remove color. The hair color comes in a variety of forms; creams, gels, or powder and will not change the the hair until they become a mix with an oxidation agent.
THE OXIDATION AGENT OR DEVELOPER.....is an hydrogen peroxide in one of various forms and strengths. It is the catalyst of the chemical reaction which allows the formula to permanently alter the hairs color. The strength of the developer is determined by the desired end result.

10 VOLUME.....deposits pigment with only a slight lightning effect.
20 VOLUME.....maximum color deposit as for gray or white hair used for darkening or lightning actions.
30 VOLUME.....Strong lightning action with less color deposit.
40 VOLUME or BLEACHING BOOSTERS.....can be used to increase lifting/lightning action.

TRAINED STYLIST + UNDERLYING COLOR + PROPER FORMULA = FINAL DESIRED RESULTS.

Though your ideal hair style depends on your face shape your hair color should be based on a combination of your natural hair color, eye color, and skin tone. Skin tone being the most important of these, looking your best will come from having a hair color that complements your skin tone.
Skin tone is used to describe the warmth or coolness of a color. Warm tones have yellow, peach, or red undertones and cool complexions have pink, violet, or blue undertones.
To simplify, if your complexion is dark, olive, peaches and cream or fair to light, pick a hair color with the same underlying tone as your skin color.
Warm tone to warm tone, and cool tone to cool tone.

Consider your lifestyle and how much upkeep you can commit to. Make sure you have the time and budget to maintain your new color and look. Maintain and prolong your new color look with the proper hair care products, avoid prolong sun, salt water, and swimming pool chlorine. discuss this with your stylist before proceeding with a new color.
